about

After causing carnage in raves and festivals across Europe throughout 2017 with their previous collaboration, 'Money & Drugs' (alongside Notion), Young H combines with Dread MC again to devastating effect on 'So Sicka' for Bristol's Durkle Disco imprint. And this time they're bringing extra lyrical firepower in the form of T-Man, Dash Villz & Grim Sickers.

Production-wise this is an altogether colder affair than Young H & Dread's previous work together, fusing the classic hypnotic 8 bar loop structure of classic grime with icy trap and drill-like synths. Whilst Dread provides the stripped back, steadily intoned hook, the beat also provides the perfect foil for flawless verses from 3 of the finest rising MC talents in the UK: T-Man of the all conquering Manchester collective Levelz, Bristol man about town Dash Villz and last-but-not-least, Mike Skinner protege Grim Sickers, fresh from the success of 'Kane', one of the biggest vocal grime tracks of the past 12 months.

Having featured on separate Durkle releases earlier this year, Mani Festo & Sheffield trio Denham Audio combine to take their remix into more familiar territory for the label with a more laid back and slightly spooky take on the original – all shuffling drums and dub-influenced effects on the vocals. Hot on the heels off his well received 'Static' EP for Barely Legal's Pretty Weird imprnt, Bristol producer Near makes his first appearance on Durkle Disco with the other remix. This version is aimed more solidly at the dancefloor, with both drums and bassline packing considerable extra punch whilst never losing sight of the vibe of the original track.

about

Durkle Disco Bristol, UK

Durkle Disco is a Bristol-based label with bass at its very core. First conceived as a place where grime, garage, hip-hop and dubstep could combine and entwine - with just as much attention paid to the MCs as the producers - the label has since evolved to become a natural home for the new strains of instrumental bass-driven music coming from Bristol’s next unstoppable wave of production talent. ... more
