about

Straight off the back of ‘Signs’ on Durkle’s sister label DeeOh7, Slowie & Komposa combine for the second time in quick succession on ‘Trust Nobody’. Riding a monster Baileys Brown production every bit as murky & menacing as the snake-filled landscape described by the 2 Bristol MCs, ‘Trust Nobody’ draws heavily on rap, grime & dubstep influences whilst ultimately sitting in a bass-heavy grey area somewhere between the 3 genres in classic Durkle Disco fashion. Picking up where they left off on their previous collaboration, ‘Trust Nobody’ sees Slowie & Komposa continue to step on the necks of clout chasing MCs and snakes, extolling the virtues of keeping your circle small and tight – albeit in a far darker & nihilistic manner than on ‘Signs’.

Bristol grime cult hero Slowie, a key member of the Durkle Disco team since 2015, returns for his first release on the label since 2018’s ‘Snakes & Blaggers’ EP. Having spent the last few years building in the studio and regularly tearing up radio shows from SWU.FM in Bristol to Rinse & Flex FM in London, we’re now seeing the fruits of his labour emerge from the lab – with this his 3rd single since the start of November, and plenty more lined up for the first quarter of 2021. London-born, Bristol-based Komposa is another MC having a strong finish to the year, having featured on the aforementioned ‘Signs’ with Slowie & $H The Producer, as well as dropping the well-received ‘Charging Up’ EP on his own NTT Ents imprint.

A regular fixture in the British hip hop scene for years now, Baileys Brown continues to go from strength to strength as he’s expanded his sonic palette and BPM range way beyond the boombap sound he originally made his name with. The last year has seen him release as a solo producer on both Potent Funk & High Focus, as one half of the enigmatic duo Dedw8 (who recently collaborated with superstar Buffalo MC Conway the Machine), and most recently turning his attention to the mic, on his album under rap alias Axel Holy. A genuinely innovative & genre-bending force, we’re excited to have him involved with this single.

Unkey, another long-time Durkle stalwart, returns with yet another blistering remix, taking the original track into more traditional dubstep territory guaranteed to rattle your rib cage when listened to suitably loud.

about

Durkle Disco Bristol, UK

Durkle Disco is a Bristol-based label with bass at its very core. First conceived as a place where grime, garage, hip-hop and dubstep could combine and entwine - with just as much attention paid to the MCs as the producers - the label has since evolved to become a natural home for the new strains of instrumental bass-driven music coming from Bristol’s next unstoppable wave of production talent. ... more
