Following on from a slight side-step into wavy grime and rap influences with previous release ‘On Sight’, Durkle Disco return to more familiar ground with ‘Bushmaster’, their final release of a jam-packed 2019. This hard-as-nails Luke Cage sampling UK Funky banger from young Bristol-based producer Fonzo (best known for his widely supported collaboration with Aæe ‘Bowow’ on Roska’s legendary RKS imprint) has been a mainstay at Durkle club and festival shows for well over a year now, so we’re delighted to be letting this one out into the world…

However, it wouldn’t be a Durkle release without a strong vocal offering too – and it doesn’t get much stronger vocally than the London City Warlord himself Riko Dan. The Roll Deep legend takes a tune that was already pretty rowdy to another level, flipping the Luke Cage samples into a venomous hook and delivering 2 blistering verses in his trademark blend of Cockney & Jamaican intonations. This version has had people stopping in their tracks wherever it’s been played over the summer, with guaranteed reloads from Glastonbury Festival to Boiler Room livestreams and radio sets.

Rounding off an already powerful release, Durkle have recruited one of dance music’s most diverse and original producers Sam Binga for the remix. Whilst nominally a DnB producer, Binga has been turning his hand to a multitude of styles and genres over the past year; and whether it’s rap, UK Funky or dancehall he very rarely misses the target. For his ‘Bushmaster’ remix he doesn’t diverge too far from his roots, flipping the original track into a brutal drum-driven 160BPM jungle smasher perfect for the rave.
