about

Denham Audio return for their first Durkle Disco outing since the Serocee-featuring smasher ‘Masta Blastah’ in early 2018. The last 18 months has been hectic for the Sheffield-based trio, with a stream
of well-received releases and remixes (most notably on their own Club Glow imprint), live shows across Europe & Asia, and strong radio support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, and Rinse FM.

‘Ego Check’ sees them step away from their usual breakbeat driven formula, serving up a minimal yet bass-heavy, and slightly wonky, slice of 2 step which serves as the perfect backdrop for Juma’s vocal. The Durkle resident host is a familiar face on the club and festival circuit, as an ever-dependable and lively master of ceremonies who has regularly worked alongside DJ luminaries such as B.Traits, Addison Groove & Dismantle. Here he proves he’s no slouch in the studio either, serving up some biting whilst still lighthearted life lessons for his fellow MCs who have let an undeserved ego get the better of them.

Rounding off the package are 3 varied but equally strong remixes. Murder He Wrote gives the original his signature bass-driven UK Funky twist, carrying on Durkle Disco’s recent run of MC-led
tracks in that style. Kaizen Karnak, the man behind UK bass music pioneers R1 Ryders, steps up with a harder and more breaks-influenced take under his new Proletariat Base alias. Taking the release into even darker territory still is another returning Durkle stalwart Unkey, who does away with most of the vocals completely in his weighty, sinister, and soundsystem-ready dubstep remix.

about

Durkle Disco Bristol, UK

Durkle Disco is a Bristol-based label with bass at its very core. First conceived as a place where grime, garage, hip-hop and dubstep could combine and entwine - with just as much attention paid to the MCs as the producers - the label has since evolved to become a natural home for the new strains of instrumental bass-driven music coming from Bristol’s next unstoppable wave of production talent. ... more
